We’ve combined our Stevia-sweetened rich, creamy Milk Chocolate with piquant and flavorful mangoes. Just sample this bar but be careful: a wonderful habit may result.
The taste of mango has been described as a “combination of a nectarine, a pineapple and an orange”. Mangoes are “one of the most cultivated fruits of the tropical world.” Since mangoes are seasonal, they must be preserved for year-round appreciation. A standard method is drying mango slices. Our dried fruits contain no sulfites, and preserve much of the taste and health benefits of the fresh fruit. The mango appears on many lists of “super fruits”, so-called because of their combination of taste and nutrition. One source declares, “Mango fruit is rich in pre-biotic dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and poly-phenolic flavonoid antioxidant compounds.”
The mangoes used in our Coco Polo bar are picked fresh in Peru, sourced in a remarkable dry tropical climate. They grow during northern hemisphere winters, and they are carefully inspected for quality. Mango trees can be gigantic, reaching over a hundred feet in height with a possible trunk circumference reaching as much as twenty feet. Our fresh mangoes are then dried in the United States.
